2016 and 2017 ENERGY STAR Contractor of the Year. Based in Portland and Bend, GreenSavers is a national leader in home energy efficiency. Get a home energy audit or estimate for insulation, windows, furnace, air conditioner, ductless heat pump, water heater, seismic or solar system.

Let your home be your refuge.

Energy gets a lot of attention. But the most important recommendations we make are the ones that keep you safe and healthy at home. Our team will make sure you’re earthquake ready and eliminate powerful pollutants like radon, mold, asbestos, and carbon monoxide.

Gas Shutoff Valves

In the event of major earthquake, your gas line could snap, spewing gas into your home and increasing the risk of an explosion. That’s why GreenSavers installs automatic gas shutoff valves. The valve connects to your gas meter and responds to seismic activity by stopping the flow of gas to your home.

Foundation Bolting

Wood-frame houses generally fare well in earthquakes. But of Portland’s estimated 152,000 single-family homes, 70% were built before the first seismic code in 1978. That means they are probably not bolted to their foundations and could rattle off, leaving the structure uninhabitable.

Water Heater Strapping

Fresh water after a disaster may be as close as your water heater – if it is still standing. Water heaters can topple over during an earthquake causing broken water lines and flooding or broken gas lines and gas leaks. GreenSavers will securely anchor your water heater to wall studs or masonry.

The Risk

Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer deaths among nonsmokers in the US.

“You can’t see or smell radon. Testing is the only way to know your level of exposure.”

Radon Resources

The US EPA and Oregon Department of Health offer a range of resources to learn more about radon and its potential risks.

How We Help

GreenSavers will evaluate the level of radon in your home, recommend a mitigation plan, and if needed, install a system to keep your family safe.

AirAdvice Testing

GreenSavers tests for 6 common indoor air quality concerns. Click here to download a sample report. You will get a breakdown of concerns, potential causes, and recommended actions for (1) particulate matter, (2) chemical off-gassing, (3) carbon dioxide, (4) carbon monoxide, (5) temperature, and (6) humidity.

“Gases from combustion appliances, like stoves and fireplaces, can accumulate in a poorly ventilated home and threaten your health and safety. Excessive moisture in the home can also threaten your health, and can lead to mold growth, ruin insulation, and even cause structural damage.” - US Department of Energy

Source Control

In addition to ventilation, it is critical to eliminate the sources of pollution in your home. GreenSavers will do a full assessment of potential gas leaks, backdrafting combustion appliances, mold, asbestos, and leaky ductwork that can carry pollutants into your living space from the crawl space, attic and walls.
